Of course I had heard about the immortal man in the hills. Just as everyone else in Oaktown,
I too kept silent about it. Let me ask you this: what would be the point? Not of meeting him or talking about him but of being him. It’s no wonder I was surprised when Emory approached me in a pub asking me if I knew anything about the said man.
“I know nothing more than you, mate.” I said. It wasn’t a lie.
Emory sat down across the table. He wasn’t a particularly good looking man; the marks of hard work were already visible. He was in his twenties. Old coat of his gave him a bigger appearance despite him being fairly well built.
The barkeeper came, we asked for wine.
“Everybody tells me that, Boyd.” He confessed. “How can I satisfy my curiosity if no one will speak of it?” He was persistent to get it out of me.
“I know stories of the old man dying a very long death.” I said and his eyes widened. “It terrified me when I was a child. Imagine dying for five centuries!”
